A current patient with an extremely infected tooth arrived on short notice to see Dr. Lee. His pain was moderate, but Dr. Lee was concerned that extensive infection may affect the patient's heart. The medical profession has shown abscess and other oral infections and bacteria to be a direct link to poor heart health and detrimental heart conditions. The patient was diagnosed with a badly broken down tooth due to decay and needed a root canal or alternatively an extraction. Dr. Lee uses his skills garnered from professional courses, 30 years of experience combined with study groups to help the patient make the best decision possible for their oral health. Dr. Lee can now add his youngest patient to his client roster; a sweet and shy 4 year old was in for her first visit. After explaining what all of our tools and machines were used for in the dentist office, she allowed us to perform her first dental exam and prophy. Introducing her to all the tools in a non-evasive manner and letting her see for herself, being at the dentist was positive experience. She left happily in her grandma's arms with mom smiling on!

New Patient - Old Cavities

In January we received and treated another new patient in pain, AR, who was 24 years old and from Australia. He had never been to a dentist in his life, which he could recall. The patient had been experiencing pain for quite some time and with proper examination diagnosed a cavity. Not having one in the past, we explained the procedure to him as we repaired his tooth. Dr. Lee felt the remaining cavities could be monitored and the patient could wait for treatment until he was on a dental plan in the coming months. It is important to go to the Dentist for regular teeth cleaning to maintain proper oral health and catch cavities before it becomes an issue.

Add another new patient to the list for Dr. Lee. CP, a 24 year old young man who had many decayed teeth and a sore wisdom tooth which had yet to be treated properly. After much pain and some research online, he contacted Dr. Lee on Dr. Lee's after hours cell phone nmber provided for emergency treatment. Dr. Lee spoke to him directly, diagnosed the problem and was able to have the patient booked for treatment the next day. The patient was more than pleased with the immediate care and attention he received, in addition to relieving all pain and discomfort.

Damaged Teeth From Thumb Sucking?

Many kids develop problems from thumb sucking that can create lif-long problems unless treated properly.

P.S. an 8 year old old boy came to see Dr. Lee with a very constricted palate due to thumb sucking and mouth breathing. His teeth were splayed or "bucked" due to his oral habit.

Dr. Lee cemented an orthodontic appliance to correct his bite. His mother was relieved that Dr. Lee was able to interupt his habit and correct his bite!

In our office, we see new patients weekly and perform a thorough exam including an oral cancer screening by Dr. Lee. During their initial important dental hygiene appointment, our hygienist perfoms a periocharting which is measuring the gum depth around each tooth in six places to detect any signs of gum disease (periodontal disease).

It is always surprising to us to hear patients say that their previous dentist never or rarely did this procedure. Our hygienist continues on to thoroughly debride the mouth of calculus (tartar), which is the buildup that creates gum disease. We discuss each patients specific oral condition and teach them how to best care for their mouth!

Denture Pain in North Vancouver?

Mrs. W. a denture patient, arrived at our office with only 2 teeth that were decayed and with ill fitting dentures. Dr. Lee was able to save these remaining teeth, and explained that they are important to keep as a denture anchor and to maintain the existing bone for supporting the dentures. Mrs. W is now free of pain and has a new smile. She is also happy to be able to eat her favourite foods again.

Gum and bone surgery? Not always...

Mrs. D is relieved Dr. Lee was able to save her upper left molar that her old dentist said would need to have expensive gum and bone surgery by a specialist oral surgeon or possibly extracted. She arrived at our office after being referred for a second opinion for this tooth that had fractured below her bone level. Dr. Lee was able to save the tooth as he treated it with a gum reduction and bone contouring surgery. The post and pin build up were successful and Dr. Lee placed the crown to protect the whole tooth. The whole procedure was done over a number of weeks to allow healing and the patients busy schedule was accomodated. Mrs. D reports the tooth feels good and is happy the tooth was saved and it cost less money than expected.

Recently Dr. Lee has seen 2 young men (BK and DA) in their 20's at separate appointments who both had not seen a dentist in along time. For BK it was 5 years and for DA it was ten years. Both were dental phobics who were very nervous about dentistry being done and both had badly broken down and decayed molars.

These young men had endured pain for years due to their fears of seeking treatment. Dr. Lee expertly and painlessly, saved their teeth where most dentists would have extracted these molars.

Dr. Lee removed the decay, performed a gum surgery and saved the teeth with root canal treatment and large fillings.

Both patients were pleased with the outcome and BK said he felt so comfortable here that he wished he had met Dr.Lee years ago to prevent the decay from occurring!

After coming to us from another office that had cemented crowns for him, Dr. Lee was able to save this patient money and time by performing a careful occlusal equilibration which balanced his biting forces and prevented the replacement of these bulbous crowns by reshaping his characteristed cusps.
